The Buy With Confidence Scheme is run by West Sussex Trading Standards. To become a member, tradesman will need to demonstrate their commitment to trading fairly and providing you with a quality service.
How to tradesmen become approved?
• A visit from Trading Standards.
This is to thoroughly check various aspects of the business, including:
- If the tradesman operates within the spirit and letter of the law?
- If the tradesman has a sound customer complaints procedure?
- If the tradesman's staff are competent for the work they carry out?
- If the tradesman's guarantees actually protect you?
• Criminal Records Bureau clearance.
Police checks are always a reassurance when inviting strangers into your home. This is especially important for the elderly and vulnerable.
• References.
Trading Standards will choose at random at least seven of the trader’s previous customers and contact them for references.
After all these checks, it is still at the discretion of the Trading Standards Officers whether the tradesman will be approved.
